# Creating an Auction

Auction Plus provides three different methods to create your auction: from a new product, existing products, or an entire collection.

## Getting Started

1. Navigate to the **Auctions** page in your Auction Plus dashboard.
2. Click **Create Auction**.
3. Choose one of the three creation methods below.

## Method 1: New Product

Use this method when the item you want to auction is not yet in your Shopify store.

* Select **New product** and enter a **title** for the product.
* Optionally add an **image** and **description**.
* A new product will be created in your Shopify store automatically.
* Configure auction settings on the right side of the page (start price, bid increment, dates, etc.).

## Method 2: Existing Products

Use this method to create auctions for products already in your store.

* Select **Existing products** and browse or search your product catalog.
* Choose one or more products.
* An auction is created for **each selected product**.
* Configure shared auction settings that apply to all selected products, and optionally [set individual prices](#setting-individual-prices-per-listing) per product.

## Method 3: Collection

Use this method to create auctions in bulk from an existing Shopify collection.

* Select **Collection** and choose a collection from your store.
* An auction is created for **each product in the collection** (up to 500 products).
* This method **requires an Auction Event**. See [Auction Events](/auctions/auction-events.md) for details on creating one.

## The Selected Products Table

Products you select appear in a **Selected Products** table showing each product's image, name, current product price, start price, and reserve price.

From this table you can:

* **Edit prices per listing** by clicking a **Start Price** or **Reserve Price** cell. See [Setting Individual Prices per Listing](#setting-individual-prices-per-listing).
* **Reorder listings** by dragging the handle on the left of each row.
* **Remove a product** with the **X** at the end of its row.
* **Add more products** with the **Add Another Product** button.

## Setting Individual Prices per Listing

The start price and reserve price configured in the auction settings apply to all listings by default. Each row in the Selected Products table is pre-filled with these shared prices. When using a **percentage of the product price**, the pre-filled amount is calculated from each product's own price.

To give a listing its own price, click its **Start Price** or **Reserve Price** cell and type a new amount:

* Custom prices are shown in **bold** with a reset icon next to them. Click the icon to revert the listing back to the shared default.
* The table footer shows a count of how many custom prices are set.

> **Note:** Reserve Price is available on select plans. See [Auction Listing Settings](/auctions/auction-listing-settings.md#reserve-price).

For large batches, consider uploading items via CSV. Refer to [CSV Import & Export](/auctions/csv-import-export-guide.md) for details.

## Important Notes

* **One live auction per product at a time.** You cannot have multiple active auctions for the same product. If you need to relist a product, cancel the existing auction first. See [Relisting Auctions](/auctions/relisting-auctions.md) for more details.
* **Only the first variant is used.** If your product has multiple variants, Auction Plus uses the first variant for the auction.
* **Auction settings** such as start price, bid increment, start/end dates, and more are applied to each listing. See [Auction Settings](/auctions/auction-listing-settings.md) for a full breakdown of each setting.

## What Happens Next

Once you click **Create**, your auction is either:

* **Scheduled** if you set a future start date.
* **Active** immediately if the start date is the current time or in the past.

Your product page in your Shopify store will display the auction widget, allowing customers to place bids.

> **Note:** Configured [Default Auction Settings](/auctions/default-auction-settings.md) pre-fill when creating a new auction, and you can override them for any individual listing. To save the current settings as your defaults, check **Save as default** in the **Default settings** section before creating.
